In continuity with the previous mandate, the renewed Board of Directors of the Consorzio DOC Delle Venezie confirms its commitment to the coordinated management of Pinot Grigio in the Triveneto area, one of Italy’s most significant integrated wine production realities. The objective is to strengthen the economic and intrinsic value of the denomination and promote its growth on global markets.
Italy’s Premier Interregional Wine Body Elects New Head
Luca Rigotti has been elected President of the Consorzio DOC Delle Venezie. The appointment took place on Monday, May 12, by the renewed Board of Directors, which convened following the Shareholders’ Meeting held at Cantina Colli Berici in Lonigo. During the assembly, the strategic guidelines that will steer the consortium’s activities for the next three-year period, 2025-2028, were also approved.
Luca Rigotti, President of Gruppo Mezzacorona and a former board member of the Consorzio, will preside over a Board of Directors comprising 21 members representing the Triveneto wine supply chain. This represents Italy’s most extensive model of interregional integration, uniting Pinot Grigio producers from Veneto, Friuli Venezia Giulia, and the Autonomous Province of Trento. He will be supported by Vice-Presidents Christian Scrinzi (Collis Veneto Wine Group) and Flavio Bellomo (Cantina di Conegliano, Vittorio Veneto e Casarsa).
Navigating Market Dynamics: Priorities for the New Presidency
“I thank the Board members for the trust placed in me in entrusting me with the leadership of the Consorzio di tutela,” stated the newly elected President, Luca Rigotti. “We will work with determination in continuity with the effective activity carried out with foresight and balance by the previous Board of Directors and President Armani, whom I sincerely thank for his valuable service to the Consorzio during these ‘foundational’ years of great commitment.”
Continuing, Rigotti outlined his strategic priorities: “Our primary objective will be to consolidate and reinforce the positioning and the territorial and economic value of Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie, which has confirmed its status as the best-selling Italian still wine globally. We will continue to promote and implement measures for managing production potential, which in recent years have ensured significant growth for the denomination on the markets. Today, more than ever, it is fundamental to be able to respond with innovation, planning, and dynamism to the changes underway: new consumption models, environmental, economic, and social sustainability, market consolidation, climate change – these are all top-priority issues that will be at the center of our efforts.”
Record Volumes and Enhanced Certification
The objectives of the new mandate are clear, starting with the reinforcement of the unified management of the country’s most extensive denomination of origin. This denomination today stands as a pillar for the stability of the interregional production chain and an absolute benchmark for the Pinot Grigio variety globally, as demonstrated by the positive performance of the DOC in recent years.
2024 marks a +3% increase in bottled volume compared to 2023, exceeding 1.7 million hectoliters packaged. This result rewards the commitment to quality and the certification system, which has been sealed with the state seal applied to every bottle of Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie, a tangible demonstration of the excellence and valorization of one of Italian viticulture’s iconic products, a symbol of Made in Italy worldwide.
Continuity in Leadership: A Legacy of Coordination
“I thank the Boards of Directors that I have had the honor of chairing in recent years,” declared past President Albino Armani, “in a challenging but fruitful journey for the Pinot Grigio system, which has proven and continues to prove to be a virtuous case of coordination and far-sighted administration of the denomination. I wish the new President, Luca Rigotti, all the best in his work, aware of the great contribution he can make to the growth of the DOC Delle Venezie.”
Shaping the Future: A Vision for Global Pinot Grigio
The new course of the Consorzio thus looks to the future with a clear vision: to enhance Pinot Grigio DOC Delle Venezie as an authentic expression of the territory, focusing on quality, certification, sustainability, innovation, and wine culture, with the aim of further increasing the presence of Pinot Grigio on all global markets.
Consorzio DOC Delle Venezie: Key Production Data
The Consorzio Tutela Vini DOC Delle Venezie was established in 2017 from the shared will of the entire wine supply chain of Northeast Italy to create the largest model of interregional integration, including the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Autonomous Province of Trento, and Veneto in a single large denomination of origin. With a production area of 27,000 hectares and a volume of 230 million bottles – within the context of a production chain comprising 6,141 grape growers, 575 vinification companies, and 371 bottling companies – the DOC Delle Venezie today represents 85% of Italian Pinot Grigio and 43% of the global production.
