From a chilled Barbera d’Asti to a vibrant Rosato, Monferrato Wines capture the perfect fresh and versatile taste for summer.
Summer, with its bright days, al fresco dining, toasts among friends, and a desire for moments that are both light and authentic, is the season when the pleasure of wine becomes more spontaneous, tied to the warmth of companionship and the beauty of a shared landscape. In this setting, the wines of Monferrato—from Barbera d’Asti DOCG and Grignolino d’Asti DOC to Piemonte DOC Rosato—reveal themselves as ideal companions: fresh, versatile, and convivial. These are wines that tell the story of a generous and passionate land, yet speak the language of the present, a language of taste, simplicity, and quality.
“The appellations of the Consorzio Barbera d’Asti e vini del Monferrato represent a model of balance between tradition and innovation. As a Consortium, we believe that true modernity lies in the ability to offer wines that are versatile, recognizable, and aligned with the new demands of consumers,” states Vitaliano Maccario, President of the Consorzio Barbera d’Asti e vini del Monferrato.
“Barbera d’Asti DOCG, Grignolino d’Asti DOC, and Piemonte DOC Rosato, to name just a few, speak a contemporary language: they are authentic, versatile wines capable of adapting to seasons, lifestyles, and new habits without losing their identity. The true strength of Monferrato wines lies precisely here: in being contemporary by vocation, not by chasing trends, but by offering concrete answers to a consumer who is increasingly attentive to quality, drinkability, and the value of the wine they choose.”
Monferrato Wines: Barbera d’Asti DOCG
Fresh and vibrant, Barbera d’Asti DOCG demonstrates a surprising versatility even in summer. Served at around 14–16°C, it reveals a fruity and dynamic personality, with notes of cherry, blackberry, and sweet spices, along with a characteristic acidity that lends energy to the sip.
Perfect for sharing on summer evenings, a chilled Barbera d’Asti represents a new idea of conviviality: more contemporary, more “pop,” yet always defined by quality. It is a wine that unites tradition and modernity, capable of meeting the tastes of a curious, attentive, and conscious consumer who doesn’t want to give up the pleasure of an excellent red wine, even in the heart of summer.
Monferrato Wines: Grignolino d’Asti DOC
Grignolino d’Asti DOC is certainly one of the ancient Piedmontese grape varieties that enriches the region’s wine landscape, finding its cradle in the territory between Asti and Casale Monferrato. Its light yet complex soul makes it perfect to be served chilled, between 12 and 14°C. This temperature enhances its fruity and undergrowth notes, which are often accompanied by characteristic hints of white pepper, revealing its surprisingly contemporary appeal.
Grignolino is a wine that plays with time and rules, today finding new life in a more relaxed and daily consumption, capable of expressing the depth of Monferrato in a modern vernacular.
Monferrato Wines: Piemonte DOC Rosato
Piemonte DOC Rosato is characterized by a color that can range from pale pink to cerasuolo (cherry red), with a delicate and pleasant aroma that is often fruity and floral. On the palate, it is fresh, dry, and soft, with good acidity and sapidity. It can be produced from a blend of typical Monferrato grapes, such as Barbera, Dolcetto, Freisa, Nebbiolo, Croatina, Cortese, and Chardonnay.
On the nose, it is delicate, with notes of fresh flowers, red fruit, and sometimes wisteria. The palate is fresh, dry, soft, and harmonious, with a bright acidity that makes it highly enjoyable. Also ideal as an aperitif, it is generally served chilled between 10 and 12°C and is the perfect companion for summer evenings by the sea.
