Porro, a leading Italian furniture brand renowned for its innovative designs and exceptional craftsmanship, has opened its first monobrand showroom in New York City. This significant milestone marks a new chapter in Porro’s international expansion, bringing its distinctive blend of modern elegance and timeless style to the heart of the American design scene.
Located in the vibrant NoMad District at 31 East 31st Street and Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10016, this landmark marks the continuation of Porro’s decade-long partnership with West | Out East, a design destination featuring warm, modern furniture and accessories in key U.S. locations, including New York, the Hamptons, Connecticut, and Miami.
Porro embodies a vision of timeless design that transcends trends, focusing on elegance and longevity in every creation. Through an architectural approach, Porro combines modular systems and iconic pieces to bring a unique, tailor-made aesthetic to each space. Every detail is meticulously conceived—from in-house designed technical elements to refined surface finishes and seamlessly integrated lighting.
“Our daily obsession is leveraging the most advanced and sustainable technologies alongside the human touch of an early century-old heritage to shape the forefront of design innovation, creating interiors that are both contemporary and enduring. This special space in New York allows you to immerse yourself in our idea of design,” says Maria Porro, Head of Marketing Department at Porro.
Since 1989, renowned architect Piero Lissoni has served as Porro’s artistic director, working in a constant dialogue with company President Lorenzo Porro. Lissoni not only oversees product development but also champions the brand’s international growth, curating flagship showrooms worldwide to present Porro’s distinctive approach to design.
“Porro returns as a protagonist in New York, opening in Madison, one of the city’s most vibrant areas,” says Piero Lissoni. “We return in style, showcasing the Porro house and renewing this important dialogue between America and Italy.”
Through two street-facing windows, the new showroom in NoMad draws the public’s attention and invites them to “peek” inside its grand house: an architectural interior conceptualized by West Chin Architects & Interior Designers. Inside, furniture and systems are arranged with a balance of rigor and lightness, creating different narratives that reflect local lifestyles and respond to the unique and personal desires of their inhabitants.
Porro’s mastery of industrial production allows for exceptional flexibility, enabling just-in-time design and an astonishing range of finishes. With over 19 wood species, 31 glossy and matte lacquers, 31 back-painted glass options, three types of glass, seven wardrobe finishes, five metal finishes, and an array of leathers, fabrics, marbles, and straws, the showroom provides limitless possibilities for creating personalized interiors that resonate with individual taste.
From light woods and cuvée to intense woods like ebony and eucalyptus, the versatility of Porro’s designs is brought to life through contrasting settings—each one telling its own story. Whether evoking the simplicity of Nordic-inspired interiors or creating bold, vibrant spaces with a rainbow of colors, Porro’s offerings ensure that every home is a unique expression of its owner’s style.
From 1925
One of the most successful furniture design brands thanks to its research on finishings, refinement of line and the technical quality of its details, Porro will celebrate the 100th anniversary’s important milestone in 2025.
Founded in 1925 in the Brianza area, by tradition the Italian cradle of high-quality furniture manufacturing, today Porro is an international brand characterized by an intrinsic ability to select, work and interpret wood, offering an incredibly wide and accurate range of finishings and using it in unexpected ways by implementing cutting-edge technologies for glossy and matt lacquers alongside fine woodworking techniques of the past.
A true patrimony of the company, the wood selection is renewed every year and is personally managed by the Porro family.
