Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie bucks the trend: +3% in bottling and +8% in certifications confirm the DOC’s leadership in the global market.
The DOC Delle Venezie Consortium closes 2024 on a positive note, reaffirming its position as a leading reference for Pinot Grigio in the international wine scene. In a global market trend of declining wine consumption, the Delle Venezie appellation – the largest interregional integration model, encompassing the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions and the Autonomous Province of Trento – continues to stand out with countertrend performance, thanks to its quality, rigorous certification control system, and the fresh, moderately alcoholic style of its flagship product.
In term of bottled volume, 2024 recorded a 3% increase compared to the January-December 2023 period, with a total of 1,706,466 hectoliters bottled. Demand for DOC Delle Venezie Pinot Grigio from the latest vintage also increased.
“Looking at data from recent calendar years since the DOC’s inception, 2024 ranks third in terms of performance, excluding the two years of strong growth during the pandemic when DOC Delle Venezie experienced exceptional demand,” highlighted Stefano Sequino, Director of the DOC Delle Venezie Consortium, adding, “These figures underscore the healthy state of DOC Delle Venezie, with the growth in bottled products clearly proving that Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie meets consumer expectations.”.
2024 was also a year of remarkable growth in certifications: the total increased by 8% compared to 2023, recording an extraordinary peak of +16% in December 2024 compared to the same month the previous year. According to data from Triveneta Certificazioni, the monthly average of certifications rose from 134,420 hectoliters/month in 2023 to 146,112 hectoliters/month in 2024, confirming the system’s effective adoption by producers.
“This growth in certifications and the increased use of products from the latest harvest highlights a market demand that remains stable and vibrant. Furthermore, the shift from an average of 134,420 certified hectoliters per month in 2023 to 146,112 in 2024 points to not only an effective use of the certification system but also an efficient production planning by our members. It’s crucial to highlight,” concluded Stefano Sequino, “the importance of implementing production management measures promoted by the Consortium, tools that help maintain market stability, which is a tremendous value for our stakeholders.”.
Monitoring activities, entrusted to Triveneta Certificazioni, are fundamental to the continued success of DOC Delle Venezie. Thanks to a rigorous system verifying compliance with production regulations and the use of the State seal applied to the entire annual production, equivalent to approximately 230 million bottles, Delle Venezie-certified wines guarantee high standards of compliance and traceability, fostering consumer and commercial operator confidence.
