FIAM Italia continues to redefine the perception of design with its collection of transparencies and illusions, showcasing a harmonious blend of innovation and iconic curved glass processing. The underlying theme across its creations is surprise, achieved through lightness, transparency, and optical illusions that challenge conventional perception.
This approach transforms design into a sensorial experience, an interplay of solids and voids where material embodies its most ethereal essence. FIAM’s pursuit of refined aesthetics constantly pushes technological boundaries, elevating glass to a central role in interior design through increasingly sophisticated techniques.
Among the standout pieces in the collection are an armchair that appears to float, mirrors that seemingly expand infinitely, sideboards that interact with light and transparency, and coffee tables with a pleated texture reminiscent of delicate fabric. Each creation defies the laws of physics, fostering a continuous dialogue between substance and illusion.
FIAM Italia consistently demonstrates its mastery in reinventing glass, transforming it into both art and an element of surprise. The brand encourages a new way of experiencing design—one characterized by lightness, wonder, and pure visual magic.
Featured Collection Highlights
ONAIR Armchair
The ONAIR armchair perfectly embodies the illusion of suspension. Designed by Ceriani Szostak, this piece replaces traditional legs with FIAM’s signature curved glass, creating a visual separation between the seat and the floor. This distinctive feature enhances the sense of floating, making the armchair appear suspended in mid-air. The interaction between its solid form and transparency gives ONAIR a presence that is both defined and elusive, tangible yet ethereal, where comfort seamlessly merges with the illusion of lightness. Its graceful elegance allows it to integrate flawlessly into any environment without being intrusive.
The ONAIR armchair features an internal structure of metal and multilayered wood, with seat and back cushions made of polyurethane. Its base is crafted from 10mm thick curved glass, complemented by aluminum feet in a brushed or black finish. Upholstery options include leather or fabric, with fabric versions offering a removable structure.
GLISS Coffee Tables
The GLISS coffee tables, a duo also conceived by Ceriani Szostak, explore rhythm and materiality, expressing the dynamism of glass. Here, glass seemingly sheds its static nature to become a fluid surface, drawing inspiration from the elegance of pleated fabrics. This effect is achieved using FIAM’s innovative patented DV-GLASS® technique, which involves fusing multiple glass sheets at high temperatures. This process transforms a rigid material into a dynamic surface rich in movement and texture. The vertical streaks on GLISS’s surface capture light, creating a captivating play of light and shadow where transparency shifts with the observer’s angle.
GLISS side tables are crafted with a 23mm thick DV-Glass top and base, available in smoke, bronze, or green glass finishes, and feature semi-polished edges.
MAGNIFICO Mirror Collection
The MAGNIFICO collection of mirrors by Marcel Wanders elevates the mirror beyond a mere furnishing accessory. Its name, derived from the Latin “Magnus” (big) and “facere” (to make), perfectly encapsulates the collection’s essence: to create a grand statement. These mirrors are cut at their top and bottom sections, enabling further visual expansion. This results in a mesmerizing play of proportions that amplifies the perception of space, evoking a profound sense of infinity. Their modularity and available finishes—silver, bronze, and smoked glass—allow the collection to adapt to various environments, creating a striking, modern, and timeless visual impact.
MAGNIFICO mirrors can be hung or leaned and feature a frame made from 6mm thick curved and back-silvered glass, available in rounded or shaped versions. They include a 5mm thick flat mirror. Both fixed and modular versions are available, allowing for variable width compositions through the addition of rectangular mirror modules.
SEGESTA Sideboard
The new SEGESTA sideboard, designed by Studio Klass, redefines the interplay between materials, geometry, and functionality. The project’s core element is its slim and minimalist frame, designed to visually soften the structure and emphasize the rich materiality of the high-temperature fused glass. This architectural frame gracefully envelops the volumes and surfaces, creating a refined balance between different essences. The contrast between the solid top and the transparent doors generates a dynamic interplay of solids and voids, highlighting the design’s clean geometry and understated elegance.
The SEGESTA cupboard features an external structure in lacquered wood, available in Vulcan Grey, Metallic Greige, or Moka finishes. The top can be made of lacquered wood (14mm thick) in the same finish as the external structure, or in marble (40mm thick), or veneered wood (40mm thick). The base and feet are crafted from black lacquered metal. The doors are made of 6mm thick tempered glass, available in flat, fused, or acid-etched finishes, and come in various finishes and back-paintings. The glass doors are secured to a black aluminum frame with hidden hinges. Inner shelves are made of 12mm thick tempered glass, and an optional LED lighting system can be integrated into the internal structure.
FIAM once again asserts its capacity to innovate and challenge material limitations, creating iconic pieces that hover between art and design. This new collection offers a compelling opportunity to explore the seamless fusion of art and innovation, resulting in creations of timeless beauty.
