Beyond the Surface: Key Cucine’s Tai_O Evolution

TAI_O Evolution is Key Cucine’s proposal for 2025, based on studying the TAI_O project and the result of the company’s drive to constant innovation, anticipating future trends.

This is why, while remaining consistent with the original project and preserving all of its oriental-style charm, TAI_O is evolving and presenting itself in a new light, introducing glass, the absolute focal point of the composition.

TAI_O, which literally means “large bay”, is a fishing town located on the western side of Hong Kong. This town has provided the inspiration for designers Tellatin and Brotto, consolidated partners of Key Cucine, to create a kitchen that develops around an island, the hub and backbone for all of the other units.

The surprising feature of TAI_O Evolution is its counter top in smoked, laminated glass, a material that gives the whole structure its refined elegance and visual lightness. A dramatic element that frames the whole composition, featuring two volumes with great expressive power: on one hand, the monolithic block in fine Rosso Lepanto marble, which contains the sink and cooktop; on the other, a unit in Natural Oak that completes the look, offering plenty of storage space and a perfect aesthetic balance.

All around is a “plazafeaturing fitted tall units and wall panelling, in elegant combinations to frame a superbly refined setting, designed to create new and different perspectives.

The wall panelling is made using Calce del Brenta, an incredibly versatile natural material and an element that characterises the aesthetics of the room. At the same time, it pays homage to the homeland of Key Cucine, Veneto, creating a deep bond between past and present, tradition and innovation.

The back wall of Tai_O Evolution has been designed to create a seamless whole with the kitchen, while integrating a typical living room element. The Rosso Lepanto marble creates a visual fulcrum, with above it, elegant sliding doors in Oak, that use a slide system to make it possible to play with spaces, creating dynamic, changing kitchen visuals.

To complete the layout, parallel to the central island, there is a functional wall unit to house the fitted part of the kitchen, with ovens, wine fridge and storage spaces, guaranteeing the maximum practical use and style continuity in the room.

Referring to a well-known urban development concept by E.N. Rogers, From the spoon to the city: “In Tai_O, as well as the practicality and utility of the single element, a lot of attention has gone to the influence this element has on the surrounding room, and the overall experience of the kitchen in everyday life, through to also defining a part of the living area,” as Tellatin and Brotto said at the time.

In TAI_O Evolution, the design is aimed at creating a blend of cultures, traditions and styles. Key Cucine has always shared this spirit: the drive to mix different characteristics, materials and universes to create spaces that are always new, but always with the same extraordinary elegance and refined balance.

Always able to astound … beyond the surface.
