Terre de la Custodia’s Plentis Montefalco Bianco DOC 2021 has distinguished itself, securing the premier position in the DOC white wine classification at ‘L’Umbria del Vino 2025,’ a regional competition adjudicated by the Umbrian Chamber of Commerce. This achievement underscores the winery’s meticulous approach to viticulture and vinification within the Gualdo Cattaneo terroir.
A Prestigious Palmarès
This accolade further solidifies the winery’s commitment to excellence, building upon its recent Tre Bicchieri award from Gambero Rosso, also bestowed upon the Plentis. Notably, this achievement follows the winery’s prior success at ‘Umbria del Vino,’ where the Exubera Montefalco Sagrantino Docg 2017 was recognized as the best red wine in Umbria in the preceding year. This consistent recognition underscores Terre de la Custodia’s meticulous viticultural and vinification practices, yielding wines of exceptional quality and regional typicity.
L’Umbria del Vino: An Enological Competition for Territorial Valorization
The Plentis was evaluated and awarded by a panel of expert sommeliers, oenologists, and industry journalists, under the coordination of Assoenologi President Riccardo Cotarella. Promoted by the Umbrian Chamber of Commerce and managed by its Special Agency Promocamera, “L’Umbria del Vino” benefits from collaboration with the Umbria Region, the Umbrian delegations of Coldiretti, Confagricoltura, Cia, and Confcooperative, the 3A Agri-Food Technological Park of Umbria, and the Umbrian Wine and Oil Routes Association. Notably, it is the sole enological competition in the region authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture.
Riccardo Cotarella, coordinator of the tasting commission, commented, “We have observed a consistent elevation in the quality of wines participating in the competition in recent years. This initiative, beyond its rigorous and accredited nature, plays a pivotal role in promoting Umbrian wine, highlighting one of our region’s most significant areas of excellence.”
