Tommasi Viticoltori, a historic winery in Valpolicella Classica and a symbol of excellence in the world of wine, is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its iconic Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore.
Recognized internationally for its distinctive blue label, Tommasi’s Ripasso has conquered global markets, making the name synonymous with quality and tradition. To mark this milestone, Tommasi is introducing a limited-edition 1.5L magnum bottle, housed in an exclusive celebratory case. The design is inspired by a “journey through time,” honoring innovation while staying true to its historical roots. This special edition also marks the transition to a new 750ml lightweight glass bottle (410g) with a unique design, a move that propels Ripasso into the future, focusing on sustainability and innovation.
Ripasso: A Blend of Past and Future
“Back to the Classic” is the chosen claim for the anniversary, harking back to 1995 when Tommasi produced its first Ripasso. Today, to celebrate three decades of success, Ripasso is refreshed with a new celebratory label and an exclusive limited edition of 10,000 Magnum cases, illustrated by the Veronese digital artist Andrea Gnesato. The illustration, a homage to the famous DeLorean from the movie “Back to the Future,” features a Panda as a symbol of a wine capable of traversing eras with timeless appeal.
Ripasso: The Evolution of a Classic
“We are thrilled to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Tommasi Ripasso, a wine that has managed to combine past and future, becoming an icon of our territory,” says Giancarlo Tommasi, winemaker and technical director. “Our commitment is to ensure that Ripasso continues to stand out nationally and internationally, maintaining a high-quality standard.”
Rooted in the origins of Valpolicella, Ripasso was born from a revolutionary intuition: the refermentation of Valpolicella on Amarone pomace (originally Recioto), a process that gave birth to a wine of extraordinary aromatic richness and structure. Today, this traditional method is also a symbol of ante litteram sustainability, demonstrating how circular economy and respect for the environment are an integral part of the Valpolicella’s winemaking culture.
“Ripasso tells our story, made up of respect for tradition and openness to the future,” concludes Giancarlo Tommasi. “Celebrating the 30th anniversary means honoring a path of excellence that continues to evolve, with a constant commitment to sustainability and innovation.”
Sustainability and Innovation: The Lightweight Glass Bottle
With the 30th anniversary, Tommasi raises the bar of its commitment to sustainability even further. Ripasso will be available in a lightweight glass bottle (410g), a choice that reduces the environmental impact by 40%, lowering production and transportation costs and decreasing CO2 emissions. A decisive step towards a more sustainable future, without compromising quality and tradition, but making the consumer experience more conscious and satisfying.
Ripasso: A Wine That Transcends Time
Tommasi’s Ripasso Valpolicella Classico Superiore is an intense ruby red with notes of ripe cherry, black pepper, and tobacco. On the palate, it surprises with its elegance, with soft tannins and a persistence that leaves its mark. It’s a wine that doesn’t follow trends but sets them: versatile, sophisticated, capable of satisfying the most demanding palates and of traversing eras while maintaining its essence.
The Tommasi Ripasso 30th Anniversary in magnum format, with a celebratory case, will be available from mid-October on the Tommasi e-shop, in the best wine shops, online platforms, and in high-end retail. A new chapter for a wine that has evolved, remaining faithful to its roots.
“The aim of the Tommasi family is to bring wine to Italy and the world with passion and trust. Wine is not like a fashion fad – We are interested in the value of tradition, the vineyard – to be able to tell a story of extraordinary Italian territories through their wines.” Dario Tommasi.
