IMT at Vinitaly: 82 Wineries Curating the Marche’s Oenological Diversity

With a selection of 82 wineries, the Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini (IMT) presents itself at Vinitaly 2025 to promote the oenological excellence of the Marche region. A strategic opportunity to enhance regional denominations and consolidate presence in international markets, following recent participations at Wine Paris and ProWein.

Following Wine Paris and ProWein in Düsseldorf in recent weeks, the Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini (IMT) is set to participate in the 57th Vinitaly, the International Wine and Spirits Exhibition, scheduled at Veronafiere from April 6th to 9th, with 82 represented wineries (43 in the Marche collective and 39 with their own stands). The appointment is at pavilion 7 (stands C6-C7-C8-C9) within the maxi-stand organized by the Marche Region, featuring a terraced area, tasting zones, and a program that combines meetings with buyers and professional operators, in-depth analyses, and debates.

The most significant showcase for Italian wine presents an opportunity for Marche wine to promote regional oenology as a whole, through coordinated actions that involve the usual collaboration between the Region, IMT, and the Consorzio Vini Piceni.

OperaWine: An International Stage

The prestigious preview of the 57th edition of Vinitaly will be, as customary, OperaWine (Saturday, April 5th, Gallerie Mercatali), which this year records the participation of three labels (Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva Classico, Verdicchio di Matelica, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore), identified by Wine Spectator, the most authoritative industry magazine, among 131 Italian wines selected as the standard-bearers of Made in Italy wine.

Events and Tastings

The program begins on Sunday, April 6th (12:00 PM, Sala Leopardi, Marche Region stand) with a tasting organized by IMT in collaboration with ICE, aimed at European buyers from Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, target markets for promotion within the EU, and the Czech Republic, an emerging area for the consortium’s wines. The spotlight will be on the wines of the Docg Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva, vintages from 2019 to 2022 (tasting conducted by Giambattista Marchetto, director of Vinonews24).

On Monday, April 7th (10:00 AM, Sala Raffaello, Marche Region stand), Lacrima di Morro d’Alba celebrates the 40th anniversary of its Doc with a guided tasting, introduced by oenologist Roberto Potentini and conducted by Cesare Lapadula, AIS Marche sommelier delegate for the province of Macerata. For the occasion, eight wines from older vintages between 2016 and 2020 will be presented.

Tuesday, April 8th, features a marathon of tastings in Sala Raffaello (Marche Region space), with events shared with the Consorzio Vini Piceni, demonstrating strong territorial unity in the promotion of Marche wine. At 10:00 AM, the focus is on Rosso Conero (Doc and Docg), Serrapetrona, and Rosso Piceno; at 11:30 AM, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Bianchello del Metauro, and Offida Pecorino will be in the glasses (tastings guided by Alessio Turazza, wine and territory expert journalist).

In the afternoon, tastings conducted by Francesca Granelli, oenologist, sommelier, and contributor to food and wine publications: at 1:00 PM, a masterclass on Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Castelli di Jesi Verdicchio Riserva, and Offida Pecorino; at 2:30 PM, a guided tasting with Bianchello del Metauro, Marche Igt (Rosé and Pinot Noir vinified in white), Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, and Offida Pecorino; at 4:00 PM, the tasting glasses will focus on Verdicchio di Matelica, Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva, Falerio, Colli Maceratesi, Marche Igt (Sauvignon and Passerina), and Offida Pecorino.

IMT Export in the Spotlight. On Wednesday, April 9th (10:00 AM, Sala Raffaello, Marche Region stand), the focus is on exports from 2022 to 2024 with Carlo Flamini from the Wine Observatory of Unione Italiana Vini (UIV) and the president of the Istituto Marchigiano di Tutela Vini, Michele Bernetti.

Today, the consortium represents 89% of the bottled wine from the reference area and the majority of Marche wine exports. Finally, with over 7,500 hectares across the provinces of Ancona, Macerata, Pesaro-Urbino, and Fermo, it accounts for 45% of the entire regional vineyard area.
