Wine Tourism in South Tyrol: Summer Activities Among Wineries, Nature, and Sports

Among the new proposals is the Wine&Bike South Tyrol Collection, which skillfully combines cycling tourism and enology with eight thematic tours and over 100 participating wineries.

South Tyrol is not only a land of breathtaking landscapes but also home to excellent wines and unique wine tourism experiences. With summer, the gentle hills and sunny slopes transform into a mosaic of vineyards and aromas: an invitation to explore, taste, and be inspired.

The novelty for summer 2025 is the Wine&Bike South Tyrol Collection, a project developed by the South Tyrol Wine Consortium in collaboration with IDM Südtirol, uniting cycling tourism and enology. Eight thematic tours, involving over 100 wineries, offer tastings, vineyard experiences, and personalized routes viewable via the Komoot app.

Each route has a specific theme, allowing tourists to choose their preferred option: Wine & Architecture along the South Tyrolean Wine Road; Pinot Blanc Tour in Oltradige: from Caldaro to Appiano; On the Trail of a Great South Tyrolean Classic: the Santa Maddalena Hills; From Gewürztraminer to Pinot Noir: along the South Tyrolean Wine Road; Mediterranean Charm: Among the Vineyards of the Merano Basin; The Northernmost Wine Region South of the Alps: a Tour in Valle Isarco; A Circular Itinerary in Val Venosta: Rugged, Dry, Spectacular; Castles, Vineyards, and Prestigious Wineries: Along the Adige Valley between Bolzano and Merano.

Wine Tourism in South Tyrol

The wine region of South Tyrol offers cyclists a well-developed network of cycle paths that traverse the entire region. Furthermore, being a relatively small wine region, the distances between production areas, wineries, and points of interest are short and easily covered; the itineraries are suitable for all fitness levels. The Komoot app provides easy access to the Wine&Bike South Tyrol Collection, allowing users to select their preferred route.

For cycling experiences, there is also the option of being guided by one of the Bike Wine Ambassadors, selected in collaboration with the South Tyrol Mountain Bike Guide Association: wine connoisseurs who accompany wine tourists on personalized cycle-tours across all wine-growing areas of South Tyrol.

To enrich the experience, local cuisine offers refined and authentic dishes, perfectly paired with the region’s wines. Hospitality meets wine culture and is celebrated annually with the South Tyrol Wine Culture Award, given to establishments that excel in pairing capabilities, wine selection, and service.

Experiencing wine tourism in South Tyrol means embracing a slow and conscious journey, where every sip tells a story. Here, wine is not just tasted at the table: it is culture, landscape, and architecture. To discover the authentic soul of this region, one can walk among centuries-old rows of vines, cycle along panoramic routes, and visit wineries with surprising designs, where tradition and innovative projects converge.
